Tyla has had experience in the professional sector for quite some time. He has owned many businesses and run non-profit organisations over his career. He is often seen in the community daily and is currently the City Councillor for the Riccarton Ward of Christchurch.

Tyla most notably has been involved in community governance, specialising in public relations, funding, cultural competency and start-ups. He has passions for technology, innovative commerce, sustainability and growing and expanding on Te Ao Māori principles worldwide.

He is the middle child of a whānau of five, with a mother who is an Employment Specialist and Mediator, and a father who is ‘the jack of all trades’ and currently a principal advisor for Te Tiriti relations. His wife Saba (Ngāti Pakistani) and daughter Anayah Noor live in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
